Pokemon: Win or Fail? 111-126

  • Name: Riguree
  • Number: 111
  • Type: Psychic
  • Species: Brain Pokemon
  • Looks like: a robo alien
  • Awesome factor: 8/10
  • Trivia: They mysteriously appeared in the desert 50 years ago. (hmmm...)
There has never been a Pokemon like Riguree before. He's obviously based off some sort of alien, yet he looks kind of robotic as well. Though he's not a steel type, he doesn't look completely organic to me, like he's some sort of alien android. The colored nubs on his hands are certainly interesting (though they remind me of jelly beans) and I wouldn't be surprised if they glow in the dark.
WIN
  • Name: Oobemu
  • Number: 112
  • Type: Psychic
  • Species: Brain Pokemon
  • Looks like: an alien in a trenchcoat and a hat
  • Awesome factor: 8/10
  • Trivia: It can rewrite or erase the memories of its opponents.
This guy makes me think of an alien who has come to earth and attempted to disguise itself as a human by wearing a large coat and hat. The fact that it can rewrite your brain like that is pretty unsettling, though.
WIN

  • Name: Hitomoshi
  • Number: 113
  • Type: Ghost/Fire
  • Species: Candle Pokemon
  • Looks like: a haunted candle with a blue flame
  • Awesome factor: 8/10
  • Trivia: It uses its light to illuminate and absorb life force. No other Pokemon has the same type combination as Hitomoshi and its family.
I really like this little guy. A lot. If I had to pick a personal favorite evolutionary line this generation, it would be Hitomoshi. Making a haunted candle ghost Pokemon is such a good idea, I'm not sure why nobody thought of it sooner. The nicest touch, though, is the blazing blue/purple flame instead of the traditional red.
WIN

  • Name: Ranpuraa
  • Number: 114
  • Type: Ghost/Fire
  • Species: Lamp Pokemon
  • Looks like: a haunted oil lamp with a blue flame
  • Awesome factor: 9/10
  • Trivia: It can sense when people are going to die and visits them as they are dying to absorb the soul as soon as it leaves the body. It is the first Pokemon since generation two to evolve via dusk stone.
The candle evolves into an oil lamp! I love it! It looks like one you would find hanging in a street corner of a haunted ghost town. But damn, do these ghost Pokemon have creepy behaviors.
WIN

  • Name: Shandera
  • Number: 115
  • Type: Ghost/Fire
  • Species: Temptation Pokemon (they always ruin it with the third one)
  • Looks like: a haunted chandelier with blue flames
  • Awesome factor: 10/10
  • Trivia: It can suck the soul out of a person with its flames. It has the highest special attack of all non-legendary Pokemon.
Shandera is pretty much my favorite ghost Pokemon and he's definitely in the top five for this generation. Something about this family just makes perfect sense to me: a ghost/fire combo that goes from candle to lamp to chandelier–all things you would find in a creepy haunted house.
EPIC WIN

  • Name: Kibago
  • Number: 116
  • Type: Dragon
  • Species: Tusk Pokemon
  • Looks like: a dinosaur with a bandana and a backwards fin
  • Awesome factor: 7/10
  • Trivia: It marks territory by slicing gashes in plants. Its tusks easily grow back when broken.
I like this little guy, but I have one problem with him: the tusks. It took me a minute to realize he wasn't actually biting down on a giant popsicle stick. Seriously, what kind of tusks are straight and horizontal like that?
WIN

  • Name: Onondo
  • Number: 117
  • Type: Dragon
  • Species: Jaw Horn Pokemon
  • Looks like: a dinosaur with plane wings attached to its mouth
  • Awesome factor: 8/10
  • Trivia: Its tusks are strong enough to break boulders. It has the lowest second-stage evolution requirement, evolving after just 10 levels (whereas Kibago evolves at level 38).
Except that it looks like he has plane wings attached to his face, I like Onondo. At least the tusks match in color this time. He's starting to look quite fierce, though.
WIN

  • Name: Ononokus
  • Number: 118
  • Type: Dragon
  • Species: Jaw Horn Pokemon
  • Looks like: an epic armored dinosaur
  • Awesome factor: 10/10
  • Trivia: Its blade-tusks are so strong that they will never break. It has the highest base attack of all non-legendary dragon Pokemon. It is the only third stage Pokemon that is a pure dragon type.
What the hell happened here!? This guy is extremely epic! I'm not sure why the body armor is gold now, but I love it. This is, without a doubt, the best designed pure dragon. It's also the best non-legendary dragon overall since Dragonite. Finally, finally those tusks payed off!
EPIC WIN

  • Name: Kumasyun
  • Number: 119
  • Type: Ice
  • Species: Freezing Pokemon
  • Looks like: a polar bear cub with a runny nose
  • Awesome factor: 7/10
  • Trivia: It inhales the mucus from its constantly running nose and uses it for attacks. When it is sick, the mucus becomes watery and powers down ice type attacks.
It's an an adorable baby polar bear with a runny nose! Awwww! How did they not already have a polar bear Pokemon? I'm not a huge fan of the hanging snot, but it's interesting that they incorporated it into the Pokemon's very being.
WIN

  • Name: Tsunbear
  • Number: 120
  • Type: Ice
  • Species: Freeze Pokemon
  • Looks like: a polar bear with an ice-sickle beard
  • Awesome Factor: 8/10
  • Trivia: It can freeze objects with its breath and has fangs made of ice. It's an excellent swimmer and is one of three non-water Pokemon that can learn swift swim, and one of two that can learn dive.
Oh God, I can't look away from its crotch! Why must they bring attention to it!? Besides that, this guy is pretty good. Reminds me of Ursaring's wintery cousin.
WIN

  • Name: Furiijio
  • Number: 121
  • Type: Ice
  • Species: Crystal Pokemon
  • Looks like: an evil metal snowflake
  • Awesome factor: 7/10
  • Trivia: They are genderless and can form chains to capture prey. It's the only Pokemon besides Porygon that learns sharpen and is one of only four non-grass types to learn solarbeam naturally. It has the highest special defense of all non-legendary ice types.
Again, I'm not sure why this guy doesn't have a secondary type of steel because he definitely looks metallic to me. Its got eerie glowing eyes underneath its metallic looking shell as well as strange blue orbs that appear to form a mouth. You can see in his sprite that his body seems to generate these balls and they kind of just fall out. Perhaps it produces snow? Not sure, but there's something strange and mysterious about this thing and I like it.
WIN

  • Name: Chobomaki
  • Number: 122
  • Type: Bug (no steel...?)
  • Species: Snail Pokemon
  • Looks like: some sort of gastropod in a knight's helmet
  • Awesome factor: 8/10
  • Trivia: It evolves when traded for Kaburumo, the wrench-headed bug.
Despite looking similarly to Shubarugo (the bug with the armor and lances) it is not related. Instead, it causes Kaburumo to evolve into said Pokemon when traded for him which will also cause Chobomaki to evolve. Anyway, it's got a pretty interesting design, resembling some sort of a nautilus or oyster-like creature more than a snail (though I can see the resemblance). Very creative to use a helmet as a shell, though I wonder how it moves with those seemingly non-flexible legs.
WIN

  • Name: Agiradaa
  • Number: 123
  • Type: Bug
  • Species: Deshelled Pokemon
  • Looks like: a genie bug
  • Awesome factor: 9/10
  • Trivia: It has the highest base speed of all pure bugs and second highest of bugs overall.
So I just figured out it's shell is actually stolen by Kaburumo (the wrench head) which is why Chobomaki doesn't have armor when it evolves but Kaburumo does. Very interesting concept. I like how they're emphasizing the relationships between different Pokemon more which makes it seem like these creatures can actually exist as part of an ecosystem. Anyway, as far as the design, I believe Agiradaa is supposed to resemble a ninja, though he looks more like a genie to me. Either way, though, he's got a pretty badass "don't fuck with me or I'll kill you"look complete with what appears to be a cloak and flowing neckpiece (this may mean it's based off a bagworm).
WIN

  • Name: Maggyo
  • Number: 124
  • Type: Ground/Electric
  • Species: Trap Pokemon
  • Looks like: a flounder
  • Awesome factor: 5/10
  • Trivia: No other Pokemon has this type combo, making it the only electric type immune to other electric attacks. It is also the slowest electric type. Though it lives in the water, it's not a water type.
I'm torn with this guy. He's right on the borderline between meh and win for me. He's not terrible (in fact, he's one of the more interesting fish Pokemon) but he looks kind of unexciting. I keep thinking that he'd look pretty funny if you were to stand him up because the face is completely on the top of his body, the fins on the side kind of look like ears, and the one on the top kind of looks like hair. Still, though he's one of the least boring (and unique) fish Pokemon I've yet seen so I'll give it to him.
WIN

  • Name: Kojofu
  • Number: 125
  • Type: Fighting
  • Species: Martial Arts Pokemon
  • Looks like: some sort of fighting bear weasel thing
  • Awesome factor: 4/10
  • Trivia: n/a
Congratulations, Kojofu, you ruined the streak. This guy is just okay. Not only is his look average but he really has no unique or distinguishing characteristics to boost his score. And my I just say, those arms look silly.
MEH

  • Name: Kojondo
  • Number: 126
  • Type: Fighting
  • Species: Martial Arts Pokemon
  • Looks like: some sort of fighting fox weasel thing
  • Awesome factor: 6/10
  • Trivia: It can use its arms as whips. Also, spellcheck didn't correct me on the name...
Fortunately, Kojofu's evolution (and I'll be honest, the connection wasn't overtly apparent to me) looks a bit better. I like that it can fight using its arms as whips it it wants to. The way its body is built makes it look like Kojondo uses some more unique and flexible martial arts styles. I can picture this thing bending all over the place doing crazy stuff and whipping people.
WIN

That was one hell of a fantastic grouping today! They certainly are getting better, but now there's only a few more to go. Tomorrow, I tackle the second to last group.
