ResurrecTV: Holy shi-

The ResurrecTV mascot: a zombie television

I... Words cannot describe this. I can't believe someone else thought of this, let alone fathom that it's actually happening. So the story goes like this: two guys, Joe Hanstein and Marcus Kohler, have a passion for TV and they're often upset when their favorite shows get cancelled before its time. Honestly, who isn't. But these two young men actually bothered to do something about it. Enter ResurrecTV, a channel dedicated to picking up and continuing previously cancelled shows. Believe it. These two guys are my heroes. Seriously. They're currently looking into a myriad of shows from all over the spectrum: from cartoons to sitcoms to dramas. On the current to do list are the following shows:

Cartoons:
  • Invader Zim
  • Megas XLR
  • Teen Titans
  • Korgoth of Barbaria
  • King of the Hill
  • Clerks
Comedies/Dramas:
  • Cavemen
  • Eli Stone
  • Pushing Daises
  • Dollhouse
  • 24
  • Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
  • Scrubs
Expect a lot more eventually, but they need to get enough of these off the ground first if they are to succeed. It is a daunting task, but one that many TV produces are very happy about. "I'm pleased that so many fan favorites finally have a place to call home," stated Joss Whedon in a recent interview about ResurrecTV. Helping them achieve their goal is none other than J.J. Abrams. "I heard about these guys from a friend of mine. They've been all over the internet lately making a buzz about this TV station they're trying to get off the ground. Of course, I fell in love with the idea and stepped in to help." Abrams' production company, Bad Robot, will be providing financial support and a reputable backbone on which other producers can rely. Abrams says of himself, "When they hear J.J. Abrams is backing this... Well, how can they say no?" In addition to picking up previously cancelled programming, Hanstein and Kohler are hoping to pick up older cult hits, both live and animated, airing in syndication to bolster the lineup. These would most likely form specific programming blocks complimented by the network's other, resurrected programming.

The channel is expected to launch around this time next year in select major cities. The team hopes to branch out from there, "If it goes well in testing," Kohler states, "We hope to roll it out to all of America late next year." The men are currently pushing for basic cable rather than digital or satellite to get these beloved shows to as many fans as possible. Hanstein concludes with this thought, "I don't think it's an impossible task at all. It's just that no ones's ever tried before."

  4. I don't watch any of those comedies or dramas and I picked the cartoons because, well, what else would I pick? Those were the most appropriate cartoons that people want to see back on the air. You know I don't watch much TV.
