Review: Kick-Ass

Oh man. Wow. This. Yes. So. Good. Can't. Speak. See. Now. Click. Read. More.

This movie absolutely lives up to its name. Best movie I've seen all year. Best movie I've seen in a long time, actually. Kick-Ass really surprised me. All the trailers make it look like a goofy comedy, but this movie gets deadly serious. Pretty literally, actually. It's extremely intense. I can't remember a movie that made me so awe struck since The Matrix Revolutions (yes, I actually really liked that movie). It seems like a brainless action comedy, but it's really emotionally packed. Somehow this movie is both serious and ridiculous without leaning too much in either direction. They seem to pull off suspension of disbelief well because no matter how unreal things get, they sure as hell seem real. It's a pretty perfect movie. I can't even describe why or how, but I implore you to see it.

But I do wonder how many irresponsible parents took their young kids to see this movie. Why do I suspect that there's going to be a flood of news reports in the near future about kids killing and/or injuring themselves trying to be a superhero?

Oh, and here's a fun fact: the comic this is based on started in 2008 and the final issue of the series (for now) was released only this February. Interestingly, the rights to the movie were sold even before the comic began publishing. As such, the comic and the film scrip were created simultaneously. They certainly differ, but creator and writer Mark Millar had a significant hand in both. So the movie isn't simply a wrong adaptation of the comic that usually pisses people off, but an alternate retelling. Pretty cool if I do say so myself.

Oh, and you don't grope breasts while wearing gardening gloves! You just don't.
