Don't even pretend you know what Tatsunoko is. You will have no idea who the characters in this game are, so don't even try. You will never know. But that doesn't matter because Tatsunoko vs Capcom is one hell of a fun game. Some people complain because they can actually tell what the hell is going on, and say the game is "slow as shit" but, personally, I like my shit slow. That's an actual quote from somebody about the game, you know.
In comparison to Marvel vs Capcom 2, the game has been regarded as garbage by some due to its less complex nature. There's no picking of types, combos are easier to pull off, and the game plays slower. To me, this is a good thing. I always sucked at MvC because I couldn't figure out how the hell to play it. So, I'd sit there and button mash. Except I'd be pulling off some crazy God-knows-what and then couldn't tell what was going on. TvC is reduced to teams of two, which may sound bad but they either gave the players more health or toned down attack damage because matches last way longer. Another plus in my book.
The game was in Japanese so I couldn't really look up how to play, but after a while I started to get the hang of it. I could actually do what I wanted and tell what was happening! I'm not harping on Marvel vs Capcom- it's a great series to be sure- but it's also ten years old old. It's about time they came out with something new! The graphics are shiny and three dimensional, the gameplay is refined, and the characters are fun. It's actually an odd mix this time on the Capcom side with some more obscure characters and odd choices, but they're all still fun to play. I have absolutely no idea who these Tatsunoko guys are, but they're hella fun to play as. In fact, they're what makes the game interesting.
There's not much more I can say except the game is way fun to play. I feel it would be even better if I could read Japanese and fully master the controls, though. Luckily, as if by some act of God, the game is releasing here in the States despite being a licensing nightmare. It adds several new characters including Zero, Frank West, and Joe the Condor while loosing one (good riddance anyway).
Look for it (hell, buy it!) early next year exclusively for the Wii.
all those other blogs are good, but i like this one the best. a little odd, but good.
